Just an Old Fashioned Cowgirl: Meeting Julia at the center of town.

Melissa Williamson, director of the impeccable "Cowboy Bebop" dub, spoke with us in a telephone interview about why "The Phantom Menace" failed and the answer to the age-old question ...

Who is the wind beneath your wings?

MW: There's so many and it all depends on what I'm doing. I think it needs to be specific to very specific points in my life. I try and do a lot of different things and there are a lot of different people like me on each of those things - my husband, my parents and my family - my family is the wind beneath my wings.

What rock star/ group alive today should have died in a horrible plane crash to preserve the legend?

MW: The Osmonds.

What song do you most associate with rain?

MW: "Blue" by Yoko Kanno.

Who is the most annoying 'Friend'?

MW: Ross, because he used to be normal and now he's just become a complete caricature of himself.

What would you most like to change about "Star Wars?"

MW: "The Phantom Menace, Episode One." Where do I begin? Jar Jar Binks. Terence Stamp's talent was wasted. They had Natalie Portman doing some accent, she's a brilliant actress, but the choices that were made for that role of princess whatever her name was, were so flat and boring and so in complete contrast to basically the whole heart of "Star Wars." It was awful. In the trilogy … they already changed the "Muppet Show Tonight" ending music at the end of "Return of the Jedi" as part of the new edition, which I was very pleased about. That's the only thing I would've changed.

If aliens landed on Earth, what book would you have them read?

MW: "100 Ways to Serve Humans." That's a "Simpsons" reference, but I guess it's also a "Twilight Zone" reference. How about something more literary? "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. It covers doubt, faith and fate.

What was your style in the eighties?

MW: Big hair, and too much make-up. Music groups I was into: Indigo Girls, Eagles and Beatles. Believe me, I grew up listening to John Denver and The Carpenters, but that was the seventies.

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

MW: Yes.

If you could choose a way for your phone number (fictional, of course) to spell out, what would it read?

MW: "So shoot me now" in some abbreviated form.

Who did let the dogs out?

MW: I don't know, but whoever did should be shot. Oh, how violent. The last two answers refer to shooting. How about this? The first is an homage to Daffy Duck and the second is just the God's honest truth.

Melissa Williamson was the voice of Julia in "Cowboy Bebop" as well as characters in the "Macross Plus" CD-Rom game, and "Phase Paradox" for the Playstation 2. She is also in the process of directing more anime after her successful inaugural treatment of "Cowboy Bebop."

See you, space cowboy.
