Tokyo is a huge city where east meets west and tourists can experience a variety of settings and culture. Among the Japanese, Odaiba has been a very popular spot for shopping and amusement, but it has stayed hidden from international visitors for a while. Now as the interest grows, more and more visitors are venturing outside of traditional Tokyo to Odaiba for the ultimate pop culture playground.

Odaiba is an artificial island within the city boundaries of Tokyo. Since its construction, it has been pictured in TV and movies quite often. The beautiful beach background and modern buildings make it the ideal place to film. Also featured in Odaiba is the famous rainbow bridge, which provides visitor a way to cross over to the island. However, for those who do not like to drive, the Yurikamome Monrail gives travelers another option for Transportation. Besides its smooth and quick ride, you also have the opportunity to take a quick peek at the Tokyo Tower and Ginza on your way to Odaiba.

Fuji TV

Besides the beautiful seaside scenery, Odaiba has many places for sightseeing. One building you simply cannot miss is the ultra-modern Fuji TV building designed by Japanese architect, Kenzo Tange. Lit up by lasers at night, this building is one of the most famous landmarks in Odaiba, which allows visitors to ride an elevator to the 25th floor and see the view of Odaiba from the sphere of the building. There are also areas for guests to visit TV sets and studios and get a quick snapshot of the Fuji TV's mascot, Rafu-kun.

Inside Joypolis

Palette Town also has many interesting sites to visit while in Odaiba. One attraction is Venus Fort, an area dedicated to "women's beauty." The appearance is designed in 18th century Renaissance style and hosts a shopping center focused on fashion and beauty. However, if you are more interested in the latest transportation technologies, you may want to check out Mega Web, which showcases the ultra-chic and newest auto trends from Toyota. If you are looking for something more adventurous, you might want to take a ride on the gigantic Ferris wheel, which is over 100 hundred and 50 meters high. It is said to offer the most breath-taking view of Odaiba and is a hit with couples. At night, the Ferris wheel features bright lights that illuminate the night sky.

Inside Joypolis

For the best entertainment, game fans might want to set aside time to visit Sega Joypolis, the ultimate gaming haven. This multi-level game center has all the latest titles from Virtual gaming, dance, sports, and more. You may want to try out some of the interactive rides such as the sideways jet coaster and "Halfpipe Canyon," where you strapped are in and experience the joys of snowboarding first hand. In addition, there is also a haunted maze, Jpop listening lounge, picture studio, and souvenir that is offered to visitors.

If you are interested in experiencing the natural side of Odaiba, the "Shiokaze Koen" (Sea Breeze Park) may be just the place for you. This is the largest park in Odaiba and features an artificial river and barbecue areas that many enjoy. For a fee per person, the company that owns the park will provide you with food, tables, and gas so you can have your own barbecue without the hassles. But, if you do not want to cook your meal, there are numerous restaurants of all types that offer delicious dishes and a relaxing view of Odaiba's seaside.

Besides these sights, Odaiba has many other places to visit and is tailored to fit the interests of everyone. You can find all types of people from couples to families, to even students that come from all parts of Japan to enjoy what Odaiba has to offer. Although you won't find Odaiba in older travel guides, it is becoming a favorite among domestic and international travelers alike.
