If you're wondering if you should buy this bundle, you should. This is easily one of my favorite yaoi manga series ever. And I've read a looooot of BL. Years ago I bought Brilliant Blue on a whim here because it was relatively cheap bundled like this and because I thought it sounded interesting. I am so glad I did! I absolutely love this series. It's really funny, and cute, and sweet. There are so many super cute panels in it, and the two main characters are fun characters individually but I especially love the way they interact/naturally fit each other so well. In fact, I love this series so much that I bought a second bundle when I saw it was on sale here at akadot again. I had become paranoid over the years that somehow I would lose this manga if I lent it to someone, and I didn't want to ever risk it not being on my bookshelf. One reason I feel that way is that Brilliant Blue feels quite unique to me for the BL I've read. It's different in a good way; a lot of the things I have sadly come to expect in other manga as tropes don't show up in this. For most of the series it's relatively... hmm, realistic? That's maybe not the right word, but it feels like a story that could maybe happen. And I won't give spoilers but there's something that happens in the background that is a pretty crappy thing for this other person to do, but I can sadly very much see someone doing that; taking advantage of a situation. What I liked was that even with the addition of that, it was treated in a way that was somewhat realistic and was as respectful of the other characters involved as was possible. Ugh, it's so hard to reference that vaguely without giving a spoiler. I don't know if that makes it sound more confusing but the point I'm trying to make is even with the addition of a more serious thing happening, it's treated in a manner that I felt was much better than it would have been treated in a lot of other manga. Which I really appreciated. But don't focus too much on my vague comment about that. The takeaway from this should be that Brilliant Blue is funny, cute, a little sad, but mostly sweet. It's a somewhat slow love story but it fits the characters very well that way. For those of you who want this extra info: It doesn't have sex scenes on screen in detail, per se, but it definitely has implications and panels that make it clear what happened. My only sadness is more of this mangaka's work is not available in English. I really, really want more from Saemi Yorita after having read (and adored) Brilliant Blue.

When Shouzo Mita left home, he thought it would be for good. Although he followed his father’s career path as a construction manager, Shouzo never wanted to enter the family business – that is, until dad got laid-up with an injury. Forced to return home and oversee his father’s company, Shouzo finds that a lot of things haven’t changed, but some things have. Nanami, a childhood acquaintance, has gone from being an awkward fatty to a sparkling pretty-boy straight out of a shojo manga. As an electrician contracted to work for Mita, Nanami’s simple, naive charm and healthy appetite manage to flip Shouzo’s switch. With the choice between remaining independent and accepting responsibility for his family even more complicated, what will Shouzo do?
