Pontiki

Move over Mr. Potato Head! Japan has put together "Pontiki," a hot new toy leaving the classic Mr. Potato Head half-baked. Based from the same concept as Mr. Potato Head, the Japanese toy company Cube has created a new generation of toys that would please any Mr. Potato fan. However, Pontiki isn't like your average Mr. Potato Head. Cube has added a few more perks, features, and surprises to their newest creation. Cute, compact, and economically-priced, Pontiki has taken Japan by storm.

The 411 on Pontiki

Unlike the classic Mr. Potato Head, Pontiki is available in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. The original Pontiki features a line of 15 different models, which Cube has categorized into four groups based on the nose style. The first group is called the "Chiki" group, which is the very basic of all Pontiki models. This group features an egg-shaped body and a small nose, which is a perfect starting point for Pontiki creations. The second group is called the "Dekabana" group, meaning "Big Nose." All the models in the Dekabana group feature a large round nose, similar to a clown's nose. The third group is entitled "Yajirushibana" group, or translated as the "Arrow Nose" group. Finally, the last group is the "Butabana" group, meaning the "pig nose" group in English. Each Pontiki in this group is given a small nose modeled after a pig snout and is commonly used for creating a Pontiki with an animal-like appearance.

Pontiki Construction Pieces

Each Pontiki contains its own unique parts and features. When you purchase Pontiki toys, you will notice that the parts of each toy are hidden within the egg. Therefore, consumers are unaware of what Pontiki parts they will receive until they open the egg after purchase. Also, there is a possibility that your Pontiki will be sick too. Cube has created a "Para-Para" or parasite toy that may be found in some Pontiki. A Para-Para is a bonus feature not found in all Pontiki models and gives the creator extra parts to work with. Also, some Pontiki might have "Eric," a human-shaped toy in it. Similar to the Para-Para, Eric is also a bonus and adds additional pieces to a Pontiki. Even though each Pontiki model has their own parts, they are interchangeable and can be used with any other Pontiki or Pontiki product. Therefore, the creative process and fun never ends.
